Joel Joaquim Fernandes for India U-13

Midfielder Joel Joaquim Fernandes represented the India U-13 team in the AFC Under-13 Boys Festival of Football for the South Asian region to be held from May 17 to 24, 2009.

India was held by hosts Iran to a 1-1 draw in the Format I tournament and suffered a surprising 0-2 defeat by the hands of Afghanistan. The boys had their last Format I match against the Maldives, whom the Indians trashed 4-0.

The Indian youngsters had a better outing in their Format II tournament matches. They went down to Iran (0-3), but were able regroup against Afghanistan (1-0) and Maldives (6-0).

Nikita Pinto and Preeti Shinde for India U-14 Football

Nikita Pinto and Preeti Shinde represented India Under-14 Girls squad in the first-ever AFC Under-14 Girls Football Festival in the South & Central Asia zone played at Colombo, Sri Lanka from April 30, 2009 to May 5, 2009.

The team lost to Jordan 0-1,drew with Iran 0-0, beat Sri Lanka 8-0 and 6-0, and beat Bhutan 15-0.

Snehal Morajkar, Sujita Murgaonkar, Candice Fernandes and Malvita Mascarenhas for Indian women football team

Snehal Morajkar, Sujita Murgaonkar, Candice Fernandes and Malvita Mascarenhas have represented India Women's Under 19 team in the Asian Football Confederation Women's Championships 2009 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from October 29 to November 5.

Snehal Morajkar scored India's lone goal in the match against Iran.

Shane Anthony for Arsenal Soccer Festival

Shane Anthony of St. Britto High School was among the 16 School footballers from across India trained in 'The Arsenal Way' by Paul Shipwright (Arsenal Soccer School) and Martin Davis (Arsenal FC Development Officer) and who participated in the 18th Arsenal International Soccer Festival in London from July 26 to August 1, 2008. The team under the name of "Tata Tea Arsenal Soccer Stars" was chosen amongst 400 children who took part in a national school football tournament. The 30 best amongst those were chosen and then trained for a couple of weeks at the Calcutta Cricket & Football Club with the best 16 chosen for the tournament in London.

The team from India drew with Acton Ealing (London) 2-2, beat Fk Orn-Horten (Norway) 2-0 and lost to West Hartford (USA) 0-3.

Albert Gonsalves for soccer training in Brazil

School footballer Albert Gonsalves was selected through the Coca-Cola organised "Grassroots talent hunt" and included in a group of 16 Indian school footballers to train at the Brazilian Football Academy in Rio de Janeiro.

The players were selected from among 3,000 footballers who participated in an all-India tournament held across eight cities. The Indians would be among 312 players from 26 countries who would be undergoing a week-long training camp at BFA from July 7 to 12, 2008. Former Indian international Jo Paul Ancheri would accompany the players as coach. The training at BFA, will be supervised by former Brazil national coach Carlos Alberto Pereira, who is the technical director of the Academy.

Denzil Franco in India national soccer team to Portugal

Denzil Franco has found a place in the national side for their tour to Portugal. The other Goans in the side are all seasoned internationals, Climax Lawrence, Mahesh Gawli, Sameer Naik and Clifford Miranda.

Goan in India u-16 Soccer team exposure tour to US

Shallum Pires has found a place in the India U-16 team's four week exposure-cum-training tour to West Virginia in the United States. For the team, the trip to the US is part of their exposure ahead of the Asian U16 Championship finals to be held in October 2008.

Salma Fernandes, Josline D'Souza, Preeti Shinde and Luiza Gracy Simoes represented India in the inaugural AFC U13 Girls Football Festival to be held at Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam from June 23 to 27.

Joel Fernandes at FC Bayern Football Camp, Germany

Joel Fernandes of St Britto's High School, Mapusa, is the lone Goan among five Indian youth foootballers selected to undergo training at FC Bayern Football Camp, Germany.

Joel will be flown to FC Bayern Football School in Germany by Lufthansa after he was selected at Adidas FC Bayern Football Clinic held in Kolkata which was attended by 44 football enthusistas from all over India. Goa was represented by 4 players from Youth Football Organisation (YFO).

The children were coached by Bayern Munich and participated in a series of futsal games. Based on their overall performance during the clinic, five players were selected by the Bayern Munich coaching staff for the camp in Germany. The Adidas FC Bayern football clinic is an example of Adidas commitment to promoting sports at the grassroot level in India.

Joel is the son of former Dempo player Baptist Fernandes who is a SAG coach.

Brandon Fernandes in India U-14 Soccer Team

Midfielder Brandon Fernandes has been selected to represent the India U-14 Soccer team at the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Under-14 Festival to be held in the Iranian capital, Tehran from May 18-23. AFC's eight member associations -- hosts Iran, India, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Bhutan and Nepal are taking part in the festival.

Junior boys at International Soccer Clubs/Academies

Shallum Pires and Arnold Cardoso trained at the FC Porto Academy for a month accompanied by youth coach Lino Pereira.

Joshuah Vaz - trained at an academy allied to Clube Vitoria de Guimaraes in Guimaraes, Portugal for 5 months from Feb to July 2007. He then went back to the same club in Sept 2007 for a 10 months stint. He will be joined by Dawson Fernandes, Aiken Dias and brother Charlton Vaz for the longer stint at Clube Vitoria.

Paul Soares - plays for U-16 team of Excelsior Vitron, a second division club in Belgium.
