Leslie Buddy D’Souza

- Leslie bagged the national title nine times in a row. He won the Light Middleweight gold in 1957 (Calcutta), 1958 (Mumbai), 1960 (Jamshedpur), 1961 (Jabalpur), 1962 (Jabalpur), 1963 (Calcutta), 1964 (Jabalpur) and 1965 (Chakradpur). In 1959 in Delhi he won the Middleweight title.

He won the bronze in the Asian Games in Jakarta in 1962 in the Light Middleweight category.

Swapnil Asnodkar has found a place in the second string Indian team selected to play 3 one-day matches against Israel from July 10 to July 16.

The Full Squad for Israel - Jaydev Shah (capt), Swapnil Asnodkar, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ravi Teja, M Vijay, Wriddhiman Saha, Rajat Bhatia, Yogesh Takawale (wk), Rakesh Dhruv, Mohnish Parmar, Vishal Bhatia, Basant Mohanty, Pradeep Sangwan, Ashok Dinda, R Vinay Kumar. The squad selected is a second string selection.

Joel Fernandes at FC Bayern Football Camp, Germany

Joel Fernandes of St Britto's High School, Mapusa, is the lone Goan among five Indian youth foootballers selected to undergo training at FC Bayern Football Camp, Germany.

Joel will be flown to FC Bayern Football School in Germany by Lufthansa after he was selected at Adidas FC Bayern Football Clinic held in Kolkata which was attended by 44 football enthusistas from all over India. Goa was represented by 4 players from Youth Football Organisation (YFO).

The children were coached by Bayern Munich and participated in a series of futsal games. Based on their overall performance during the clinic, five players were selected by the Bayern Munich coaching staff for the camp in Germany. The Adidas FC Bayern football clinic is an example of Adidas commitment to promoting sports at the grassroot level in India.

Joel is the son of former Dempo player Baptist Fernandes who is a SAG coach.

Brandon Fernandes in India U-14 Soccer Team

Midfielder Brandon Fernandes has been selected to represent the India U-14 Soccer team at the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Under-14 Festival to be held in the Iranian capital, Tehran from May 18-23. AFC's eight member associations -- hosts Iran, India, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Bhutan and Nepal are taking part in the festival.
